Greetings from the Director of Aomori Port

Welcome to the Aomori Port Office website.
Aomori Port Office is affiliated with the Tohoku Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and through the development of social capital which forms the foundation of our livelihoods and industries, the office addresses the management and local development of our national territory.
As part of that infrastructure, our office oversees the development, use, security and management of ports administered by the national government in the Tsugaru and Shimokita regions of Aomori prefecture. Specific details concerning some of the main operations of our office are listed below.

  • To ensure the safe and stable handling of cargo by marine vessels using Aomori Port, and to ensure safe and reliefworry-free embarking and disembarking of passengers and crew of these vessels, we develop measures to calm surface waters as well as provide maintenance and upgrades to piers to lessen damage caused by high tides and large waves.
  • We address issues relating to the maintenance of nationally-administered facilities so that they can function properly and as intended into the future.
  • Port security measures
  • We provide support to local development through development of the port.
  • We study issues related to port functions which are necessary for regional expansion.

Aomori Port has been used as a hub for marine transport since olden times, and has expanded together with the city.
In general, the port as a distribution hub may not present a welcoming face to the general public, but that’s not necessarily the case.
Port development means not only the development of infrastructure for industries, but also it is connected to regional development by drawing on such characteristics as the city being close to Aomori Port and making the most of this fact. We invite everyone to please take a walk down to the port and see it in operation and understand how it’s connected to the city.
In Aomori Port, you can see how trucks zip on and off the various ferries coming and going, experience the Aoiumi Park, and stand on the deck of the ocean-side promenade and view the downtown of Aomori.
New discoveries with respect to the port and the city await.

To achieve safe, stable, user-friendly and popular port development for the future, we must make every effort to listen to the voices of port stakeholders.
These range from Aomori prefecture which is the port management body, and governmental organizations such as the city of Aomori which has expanded along with the port, to port users such as industry and other private sector organizations, as well as non-profit organizations involved in regional development.
