We undertake the maintenance of ports vital to human livelihood and living.
In particular, we are concerned with the construction of breakwaters and quays.
Ports handle 99.7% of the volume of imports and exports in Japan.
Learning from recent tragedies such as the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and Great East Japan Earthquake, we are particularly interested in the function of quays from a disaster prevention point of view.
In addition, the maintenance of breakwaters is one of our major undertakings so that a degree of calm water can be maintained within harbors to protect human life and ships from tsunami and other waves.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and prefectural governors, who are the port management body, consult on and administer these port developments according to the Port and Harbor Act.
There are 15 ports within Aomori Prefecture.
Of these, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism develops the major ports such as Aomori, Hachinohe and Mutsuogawara.
Within Aomori Prefecture, there are 2 port offices, and the areas of control for each are shown on the map above.
The Hachinohe Port and Airport Office maintains the Misawa Aerodrome as well.
